Paris in Winter

Tired of the winter gloom? Feeling like your whole life revolves around study or work? Justarc-de-triomphe need a change of scene? There’s nothing more refreshing than a weekend away! Europe is bursting with fabulous cities waiting to be explored – so after finding cheap flights we just couldn’t resist a trip to Paris!

Eat lots of Croissants

There’s no better start to the day than indulging in a freshly baked Pain au Chocolat! In Paris there really is a bakery around every corner, so make sure you take advantage of the abundance of tempting treats on offer. If you love cooking, you will find yourself awed by the perfection of these pastries. Remember, to enjoy the freshly baked experience arriving early is a must!

Visit the Museums

e1240Many museums have free entry for people aged 18-25 years from EU countries – ID is needed! This provides art lovers with endless free entertainment while others can enjoy the trill of seeing paintings they learned about in school without the time/cost commitment. Make sure you check out the Louvre – you wouldn’t want to miss the Mona Lisa! A visit to the Musée d’Orsay brought back lots of school memories as we discovered works by Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet and Jean-François Millet.

Tour Buses

If you want to explore the city stress free try the tour buses. These offer audio tours while allowing you to hop-on hop-off at attractions which interest you. Sitting at the top offers the best view while also allowing you to closely appreciate the architecture of Paris’s beautiful buildings. If you choose to sit upstairs wear lots of layers – open air buses are very chilly in winter!

Climb the Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower Stairs

To truly understand the height of the Eiffel Tower skips the lift and take the stairs! We also hoped that the climb might help to fight that frozen feeling and after 704 steps we were much warmer! This route allows you access to the first and second floors where you can find panoramic views of Paris, restaurants, shops and even an ice-rink. There’s also a glass floor through which you can watch the tiny people below.

Shopping

Paris sales have great reductions. So if you love brands you can’t afford this is an opportunity not to be missed! Make sure you check out Galeries Lafayette – its stunning interior is something you’ll never forget!

City of Light

Wander through the streets as you soak up the beauty of the Christmas illuminations. Shop on the Champs Elysas the lights sparkle above you. Navigate the stalls at the Christmas Market. The lights of Paris are unforgettable so try to find time for an evening stroll. There are also tours available but if you don’t fancy paying why not be your own guide and discover the magic for yourself?
